The Wilfa Joy(2023) project includes a single and a double waffle maker sharing a common design idea.
Our goal was to create a pair of pleasantly simple, foolproof products that are intuitive in their use and easy to operate, delivering perfectly golden waffles every time.
As part of a larger collaboration, our job has been to build a unifying design language that can be applied in multiple categories as the brand’s design evolves.
When we created the Wilfa Joy series, our ambition was to design waffle makers that embody the essence of modern Scandinavian living: clarity, warmth, and effortless functionality. We wanted to strip the product down to what truly matters — even heat, intuitive operation, and a form that feels calm and familiar in the kitchen. The result is a pair of waffle makers built on a shared design language, shaped to be simple, foolproof, and genuinely enjoyable to use.
Every detail was considered with intention. The clean lines and soft transitions give Joy a timeless presence, while the solid build and balanced proportions communicate reliability without unnecessary complexity. We focused on creating a tactile, intuitive interaction — a product that feels natural from the first touch, whether you’re preparing a slow Sunday breakfast or a quick treat for friends. The design supports the ritual without overshadowing it, letting the experience of making waffles remain at the center.
Performance is woven into the design itself. Consistent heat distribution, easy handling, and dependable results were non‑negotiable, and the Joy series has earned its reputation as a test‑winning favorite for exactly that reason. For us, Wilfa Joy is more than a waffle maker — it’s a celebration of everyday moments, crafted with the simplicity, honesty, and quiet excellence that define Norwegian design.
